God wants us to enjoy all that He has generously provided in His Son, Jesus. So why aren’t more of us living in the victory of Christ? It’s almost like the key to the victorious Christian life is a secret. However, God would not tell us to walk in victory and then hide how to do it. The secret is, there is no secret. But there are a few keys to the victorious life that I can share with you:
- Victory is a gift. “But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57). Why do we waste time and energy trying to earn what can only be received by trusting the Lord? You and I couldn’t afford the life of victory that God so generously gives us in His Son Jesus.
- Victory begins with grace. “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). Every Christian who experiences the victorious life has done so in the knowledge that it cannot be gained in their own strength; no matter how mentally, physically, or financially gifted they are. We are completely incapable of enjoying the victorious and abundant life without trusting, resting, and relying on the grace given us in and through the life of Jesus.
- Victory is a choice. “For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3). “…I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31). This is a deliberate choice; a conscious act of the will to surrender my mind and body to the will of God. It is a daily choice to die to self and live for Christ.
Living the victorious Christian life isn’t modeled very often anymore, but it’s certainly not a secret. As a matter of fact, all that we’ve discussed about it can be wrapped up in one sentence:
Let us “fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith…” (Hebrews 12:2). Will you fix your thoughts on Him today in order to live victoriously? He is the only One Who can give us the victory!
