As Christian man and husband I am well aware of the biblical instruction for married women of faith, “Wives, be subject to your own husbands as to the Lord.” But before I indulge my inner Tarzan I need to continue reading, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” Well now, that’s certainly a game-changer.
The success of Jesus was found in the submission to His Father, His service to others, and His sacrifice for all. So for me to love my wife like Jesus loved the church I need to submit to my heavenly Father, serve her, and sacrifice my needs for her needs. My wife has no problem submitting to me when I’m submitted to Him. Face it, we all love be a servant until we’re treated like one but the reality is that if I serve my wife like a queen she is more likely to treat me like a king. Service out of love calls me to serve when the only gain is her well-being. This how men become legends in their own homes.
