“See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and valiant warriors.” (Joshua 6:2)
We’ve all heard the phrase, Seeing is believing. That’s how the world operates. God calls His people to live differently. With God, believing comes before seeing. That’s the situation Joshua and the Israelites found themselves in before the battle of Jericho—and we serve the same God as we face our own battles today.
God spoke of Jericho’s defeat as if it had already happened, even before the battle began. He wasn’t giving Joshua a divine pep talk; God was promising something He had already secured—Israel only needed to possess it. The walls of Jericho aren’t our battle, but things like doubt, temptation, fear, and discouragement are. As believers, we never fight for victory but from a position of victory.
You may be thinking, I don’t have the ability to overcome this situation. Yes, you do! God has already given believers everything we need for the spiritual battles we face. Romans 8:37 promises, “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.” As a follower of Jesus, you have more at your disposal than you realize.
You have access to all the blessings of Christ right now. Ephesians 1:3 reminds us that God “has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” Peter also writes that God’s “divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3–4).
In other words, faith walks before walls fall. We must believe before promises are realized, before prayers are answered, and before victories are visible. Do you believe His promises are true? Do you believe He will do what He says He will do? Then you can live with certainty and confidence—not confidence in yourself, but confidence in God.
The world says, Seeing is believing. God says, Believe Me, and you will see. That’s what faith is. God is simply asking you to take Him at His Word. You may find yourself outnumbered, but you’ll never be outmatched, because “greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). Remember, believing comes before seeing.
