“you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise” Ephesians 1:13

The deep, abiding peace described in the Bible starts with understanding our security in Christ. The apostle Paul described a secure life by using the word sealed. In Paul’s day, a seal represented ownership, authenticity, and protection. When a king sealed a document, it meant: “This is mine. It’s official. And no one messes with it.” That’s exactly what God does. The King of Kings marks us as His own.

When God saved you, He wasn’t giving you a second chance but a new identity as His child. God looks at you and says, “He’s mine. She’s mine.” The fact that His Spirit lives in you is proof that what God started, He’s going to finish. The Holy Spirit is the down payment—the “pledge of [your] inheritance” —and marks you as “God’s own possession” (Ephesians 1:14).

Because you belong to God, you have the security of His divine protection. That doesn’t mean a trouble-free life but that nothing can enter your life without His permission. And anything He allows He can use—for your good and for His glory. It’s often the hard things in life that shape us into the image of Christ. But nothing—not even death—can separate us from Him (Romans 8:28-39).

The Holy Spirit is also a mark of authenticity. The very nature of God lives within you (2 Peter 1:4), giving you the ability to act and react like Jesus. You don’t have to try to be a Christian—just trust what God has already done in you. And since you didn’t work your way into salvation, you can’t work your way out. When you mess up—and you will—you don’t have to run away from God. You run to Him because you’re still His. That’s security. That’s peace!

Christianity isn’t a struggle-free life, but it is a secure life. So dear believer, rest in this truth: You belong to God. The King of Kings has marked you as His own. He knows your name. He knows your situation. And He’ll never lead you anywhere He won’t sustain you. You can’t handle it, but He can. Life is secure when left in His hands. He’s not letting go.
