“Commit your way to the Lord. Trust also in Him, and He will do it.” (Psalm 37:5)
What does it mean to commit your way to the Lord? It means giving yourself fully to Him—holding nothing back. Instead of reacting in fear or striving to control outcomes, you trust God to act. But how do we practically give our plans, ambitions, habits, and worries to Him each day? Committing your way to the Lord involves two essential responses.
First, surrender control. Give God the reins of your life and allow Him to direct your steps. Even if you attempted to control every detail, you couldn’t. Much of what we call “control” is only an illusion. At the root of our desire to control is fear—what if? What if this happens? What if it doesn’t? Releasing control means placing your burdens and expectations into God’s hands and trusting Him with the outcome.
Trust that He is actively working—even when you cannot see it. His movement may not match your timeline or expectations, but it will always align with His perfect wisdom and timing. Trusting God does not mean becoming passive or careless. It means faithfully stewarding your time, talents, and resources while leaving the results to Him.
Second, stay rooted in His Word. You cannot trust someone you do not know. As you read Scripture, you discover God’s unchanging character and the consistency of His ways. You learn what pleases Him and what He promises. You also come face to face with His holy expectations—standards you can only meet through Christ.
So where are you still trying to maintain control? Is it fear of what might happen—or what God might choose not to do? Let go of the reins. Trust Him. He desires what is ultimately best for you and for those you love. Learn to find your satisfaction in Him, not in outcomes. Commit your way to the Lord, dwell in His presence, and place everything in His hands—holding nothing back.
