“What is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.” (Ephesians 1:19)

Have you ever thought, “I just can’t”? That’s the wrong mindset for a believer. When our thoughts center on our limitations—our resources, our skills—we’re looking in the wrong direction. The apostle Paul points us to the right source: God’s power, God’s strength, God’s might. These aren’t just available to us in times of trouble; they’re available continually, and in abundance. So yes, you can’t—but God can.

The same power that created the universe, split the Red Sea, and raised Jesus from the dead is at work in your life. Do you really believe that? Your lack of skill, strength, or supply doesn’t hinder Him in the slightest. What God initiates, He empowers. And His power is always sufficient to accomplish His purpose, both in you and through you.

But this power flows from relationship. Daniel 11:32 says, “The people who know their God will display strength and take action.” This is more than knowing Him as Savior. It’s about an ever-deepening relationship. The more time you spend with God—through His Word, prayer, and worship—the more you learn about who He is. And the more you know Him, the more you’ll trust His guidance and rely on His strength.

So, how well do you know God? If you struggle to discern His will or feel paralyzed by anxiety, it’s time to draw closer. What doubt, insecurity, or fear keeps rising in your heart. Now match that to one of God’s names or attributes. For instance, feeling weak? He is Almighty. Inadequate? He is Sufficient. Alone? He is Immanuel—God with us. The list goes on and on.

That’s why saying, “I can’t” often really means, “I won’t.” What is the Lord calling you to do that’s beyond your natural ability? You can’t—but God can. He’s not asking you to act in your own strength. He’s inviting you to trust His. And that’s when He gets all the glory. So, stop focusing on who you are not, and start focusing on who He is. God will give you as much power as you need, and then some.
